I’ve been following Michael Hyatt for more than a year, inspired by his consistent blogging, great design, and the profoundly simple writing style that always gives me something new to chew on.
This book, Platform, takes what appear to be a hundred, or so, blog posts, and combines them into a single, easy to read, resource for would-be bloggers, authors and innovators. Each brief chapter gives practical advice on everything from maximizing twitter to providing a wow experience at your company’s front desk.
In addition to the how-to, Hyatt provides nuggets of inspiration. For instance, in a list of ideas for what to write about, He says, “You are probably sitting on priceless information that others would die to have access to.”
As I read, I began to implement some of the simple ideas, and eventually decided to go all-out and relaunch my blog on a self-hosted WordPress site. The book has been an indispensable tool in this process.
But Platform isn’t just for writers. This book gave me a page of notes for how to improve everything from simple systems at camp to aspects of my leadership style, how to extend the influence of a brand, and how to think creatively about new product lines.
